If you are a history buff and enjoy a more “classic” type of vacation that includes sightseeing and fun activities, the Adriatic is the place to be

The Adriatic region is home to important historic landmarks that are more than 2,000 years old.

In fact, you will find plenty of archeological finds that date to prehistory, such as the Krapina Neanderthal Site in Croatia, or remains of the Starčevo and Vinča cultures in Serbia. A lot of the architecture in the bigger cities in the region also dates back a few centuries. Buildings perhaps preserve history more than any other artifact and if not, they might be the most omnipresent reminder of it. When strolling in the cities of the Adriatic region, you will not help but notice that it feels like being in a different time period, but the hustle and bustle around you will remind you are indeed still in the present.
